Five jr. athletes from Illinois were qualified for the Panamerican jr. Taekwondo Championships. Two did not compete do to Injury...

On October 7-9, 2011, five athletes from Illinois will be competing in the Junior Pan Am Taekwondo Championships in Las Vegas, NV.
Three athletes will represent USA and two will represent the country of Panama, all five athletes are residents from Illinois.
As President for the State of Illinois I am very proud of these athletes, I wish them the best of luck!

Two Taekwondo Athletes from Illinois are Qualified for
Pan-Am Team Trials, World Championships Team Trials,
and Olympics Team Trials.
Two of Illinois's athletes qualified for the Pan-Am Team Trials, World Championship Team Trials and the 2012 Olympic Team Trials at the USAT Nationals held in Orlando,FL. last July 2-4. Cora Torres a nineteen year old (Welter Weight) who is also a 2010 U-24 National Team Member and Carolen Carsten fourteen year old (Fin Weight).
The first qualifying event was the Pan Am Team Trials held at Colorado Springs, CO. in the Olympic Training Center September 3-4, 2010. They both did a great job, but finished short. The next event will be the first Olympic Team Trial the weekend of November 13th through the 14th in Colorado Springs at the Olympic Training Center, depending on how these girls do they will hopefully move on to the second trial to be held in Seoul, Korea in May 2011. The World Championship Team Trials will take place again in Colorado Springs early January, 2011. Good luck for the upcoming events!
Illinois Taekwondo Athletes also did well at AAU/USA National Team Trials
September 11-12, 2010, AAU, a National Organization, hosted their National Team Trials for the 2011 AAU Junior and Senior Taekwondo Team at Fort Lauderdale, FL.
Four of Illinois's Black Belt athletes ages 14-32 qualified for this event at the AAU National tournament earlier this summer. Three athletes from Illinois were able to make team. Christian Medina in the Senior (18-32 year old) Feather Weight division finished undefeated five matches and became AAU/USA National Team Member. Alex Yow Senior Fin Weight and Carolen Carstens Junior (14-17 year old) Fly Weight Division both finished undefeated.. These three athletes will represent the United States in an International European Taekowndo Event in the Spring of 2011.

The AAU a National Organization hosted their National Team Trials at Fort Lauderdale, FL.
Top four athletes age 14-32 Black Belts from Nationals, were qualified for this event. Three athletes from Illinois were able to make team. Christian Medina in the senior father weight division finished undefeated five matches and became AAU/USA National Team Member, Alex Yow Senior fin weight also finished undefeated, and Carolen Carstens Junior fly also did not lose any match. This three athletes will represent the United States in an International competition in 2011.
U.S. athletes won 20 medals
U.S. athletes won a total of 20 medals at the Costa Rica Open held in San Jose, Costa Rica, Aug. 28-29. A team from Illinois, coached by Master Luciano Medina, and Master Eric Laurin won second place overall. Here is the list of U.S. medalists from the competition, all athletes are from Ilinois.

Referee Seminar
The 2011 USAT Illinois Referee Seminar was a great success!
On Saturday February 12th the Illinois Taekwondo State Association hosted an official referee seminar at the Illinois Taekwondo Headquarter, ChampYon Taekwondo USA.
Over 40 referee attendees from the State of Illinois and few from other States attended to refresh and learn the new rules for this year's competition. Specials thanks to Master Choung Pham for a great seminar!
Congratulations to all referees who attended the seminar and I hope to see all of you on March 5th to run a succesfull State Championship. For the referee who are planning to help in the State Championship, your referee fee paid at the seminar will be refunded.
Dress code is required to referee in the State Championship... black trouser, white shirt, and red tie.
